Who we are

IrishBikes.ie ("we", "us") operates an online marketplace for buying and selling motorcycles, scooters, quads, motocross bikes, bicycles, parts and gear in Ireland.

What we collect

• Account details: email address and password (stored securely, hashed — we never see or store your plaintext password).
• Profile information you choose to add: display name, county, WhatsApp number, seller type.
• Listing content: titles, descriptions, prices, photos, and vehicle details you submit when posting an ad.
• Messages you send to other users through the site, and offers you make or receive.
• Basic usage data stored in your browser (not sent to us): saved bikes, recently viewed listings, and compare-list selections, kept in local storage on your device.

Why we collect it

We use your data to operate the marketplace: creating and securing your account, publishing your listings, delivering messages and offers between buyers and sellers, and showing you your own saved bikes and searches. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

Advertising

We show advertising on this site to help fund running it for free. This takes two forms:

• Google AdSense — a third-party ad network. Google may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can see or opt out of personalised advertising at adssettings.google.com, and find out more about how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
• Directly-sold banners — plain image adverts we've sold directly to local businesses, clearly labelled "Sponsored". These are static images and links only — no cookies or tracking of any kind are involved.

Advertising doesn't affect what data we collect about your account or listings as described above, and ad providers never receive your account email, messages, or offers.

Automated checks on listings

When you submit a listing, its title, description and category may be automatically checked by an AI system to confirm it's a genuine, appropriately-categorised vehicle or gear listing before publication. This check does not affect how quickly your ad goes live and doesn't make final decisions without the option of human review.

Who we share it with

We use third-party service providers to run the site, who process data on our behalf under their own security and confidentiality obligations:

• Supabase — hosts our database, authentication, and image storage.
• Anthropic — provides the automated listing-check described above.
• Google AdSense — shows advertising on the site, described further under Advertising above.

Your listing details (title, photos, price, county, and any WhatsApp number you choose to display) are shown publicly to other visitors, since that's the purpose of a listing. Your email address is never shown publicly, and we don't publish phone numbers directly — buyers and sellers share those with each other in messages if they choose to.

Cookies

We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in — this is always on, since the site can't function without it. We don't use analytics cookies. On your first visit, a banner lets you accept or reject advertising cookies from Google AdSense:

• If you accept, AdSense may show ads personalised to your browsing.
• If you reject (or don't choose), you'll still see ads, but AdSense is told to serve non-personalised ones instead.

You can change your choice anytime via "Cookie settings" in the footer. Directly-sold banner ads don't use cookies at all, regardless of this choice. See our Cookie Policy for full detail.

Your rights

Under GDPR, you can ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time. You can update most of your details yourself from your account page, delete your own listings and account data, or contact us to request a full deletion of your account.
